I recently purchased Wildfire, a 1985 26 with a volvo Tamb40.  I am having frequent prolems with cavitation @2800-3000 rpm. The engine appears to be running smoothly, the prop and rudder are in good condition w/ no obvious nicks etc. The proplem is sporatic and does not occur all the time. Occasionally I can power thru it but usually find going down to 2500rpm is needed to end the cavitation.   Any recommendations to resolve the problem?    Scott Hartshorn

You may want to examine the shaft anode to see if it is positioned close to the (hull preferred), or toward the cutlass bearing (where some people feel it impacts suction to the propellor).  If it is in the middle, it will compound any imbalance in the shaft, especially if it is worn asymmetrically, as most are.  The slight vibration might be confused with cavitaion.
Not sure what kind of propeller service companies there are on the island, or if they have to be shipped out.  If it is the latter, I highly recommend: Scandia Proeller service 2 Union Ave Fairhaven, MA 02719 508-997-1207.  I had my prop service at another shop previously, and the work done by Sandia was superior.
