Soda Blasting

Happy Holidays Rod, what is your feeling about soda blasting a Fortier, first is it worth the cost ? I recently got an estimate of $6,000 which includes 3 barrier coats and 2 coats of bottom paint which seems very high to me ? There is a guy in R.I. that I believe you recommend, if so would like his name and number. Thank you John Re

Steering

I've got a 1996 Fortier 26. The steering locked up this summer and I've just pulled the cable and helm out of the boat.   It appears I can buy replacement parts from  Jamestown distributors. – However it has been suggested to me that I consider rebuilding with hydraulic steering rather than cable. Has anyone made this conversion? Any problems?

Fuel draw problem

My 26 Fortier, Bluejacket II, is experiencing a fuel draw problem. Since new in 2000, I have always drawn off both tanks and by keeping the port return slightly closed, the fuel burn was even. Starting last fall, the draw changed drastically. On my run to Freeport from Montauk, I burned 57 gallons with 47 coming out of the port tank and 10 out of starboard. This spring I ran the boat for an hour off the starboard tank only to verify that there was no fuel line blockage. All was normal at the full rpm range.

caulking laminated glass in teak

I want to re-install laminated glass windshield in teak frame on Fortier 26.  Any advice on step by step and proper sealant?

fuel tank..filling

when filling tanks on Tootsie our 1981 26' the vent pipes which are located on the tanks very close to the fill tube pick up fuel and blow it out of the vents. this requires the use of a fuel catcher suction cupped over the vents, a rag, smelly hands and a VERY slow rate of fill. any one else experiencing this problem ? any solutions?
thanks

Fuel System-Tank Access

I have a 97 Fortier 26 and believe there is foreign matter that is clogging the port side fuel pick up.  After gaining access to the tank at the stern of the boat, I removed the fuel line to be sure nothing was in the line.  On the top of the tank, there is a stainless steel fitting that is screwed into a bronze fitting on top of the tank.  I believe the pick up tube is part of thsi assembly.  I tried with no success to remove the stainless fitting believing I would have access to the pick up tube.  As an alternative, I was able to insert a wire through the pic

Topside Painting

I recently replaced all the electronics on my 1988 F26 with a single Raymarine unit that is clean, simple and gives everything I need.  What I do not need are the several screw and cable holes that need to be filled and covered all around the bulkhead and helmstation.  Rather than regelcoating this area and would appreciate comments or guidance on the best paint to use, primarily one part vs 2 part epoxy solutions.  Same question applies to the cockpit deck that has worn thin over the years. Thanks

Steering

Hi, I own a 1977 26' .
My steering is Hydraulic by teleflex. It seems incredibly loose to me. I have put fluid in the port right in front of the wheel but it makes little or no difference. I'm quite sure the wheel is a standard size. I am use to the steering the way it is (not great) but anyone else who drives the boat is very surprized by the excessive play on the wheel.
Would anyone have any suggestions for me? Should I be looking somewhere else to apply pressure?
Thanks
John
